The collaboration between Sony and the reigning Premier League winners is still in its early stages, but it is unique in sports. For the time being, the experience is limited to a virtual visit to the Etihad Stadium. Eventually, spectators will be able to teleport into this virtual stadium while dressed as their own avatar. The avatars of the players can already move around the pitch. Each player has already been fitted with sensors in order to duplicate their style of moving and playing with the ball. The objective is to create new methods of communicating and engaging with fans through online content and services, including a virtual world that has yet to be created. Additionally, the idea is to build a global community of supporters who can connect with each other and their favourite club through avatars and a virtual reproduction of Manchester’s Etihad Stadium.
