Sony has announced the North American availability of its Mocopi motion-tracking system, a unique tool that enables real-time control of digital avatars through full-body movement. The system utilises six motion sensors and a proprietary smartphone app, allowing users to control avatars in real-time or import motion data into affiliated software for videos and 3D animations. The primary application for this technology is in virtual reality (VR), particularly social apps like VRChat, but it extends to filmmaking and other creative endeavours as well, simplifying the process of creating full-body motion capture footage. The Mocopi system is compatible with major 3D development software suites and ships with a range of avatars. Preorders are available for $450, with shipments starting on July 14.
