According to the study, weight-normative messaging is prevalent on TikTok, with the most popular videos celebrating weight loss and framing eating as a tool to achieve health and slimness. The study, which looked at the top 100 videos from ten prominent nutrition, food, and weight-related hashtags on the site, also discovered that social media use in adolescents and young adults is linked to disordered eating and poor body image. The researchers call for a move to a weight-inclusive diet as well as a reconsideration of social views regarding bodies, food, and health.
