Google is funding 15 AI projects to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including eight digital health initiatives. Each project received $3 million in funding, technical assistance, and Google Cloud credits, with some also benefiting from Google.org Fellowships. The digital health projects include RAD-AID, which uses AI to assist low-resource hospitals with patient triage and medical image interpretation. In Guatemala, Wuqu’ Kawoq and Safe+Natal are developing a machine learning toolkit for rural midwives. Other projects aim to address dementia-related agitation, enhance diagnostics in resource-limited settings, provide health information to expectant mothers, manage patient data in sub-Saharan Africa, and improve accessibility for deaf individuals through generative AI. This investment aligns with Google’s commitment to advancing AI in healthcare, including the development of Med-PaLM 2 and the AI-enabled Claims Acceleration Suite for health insurance processes.
