This week, two ultra-fast delivery startups, Fridge No More and Buyk, have announced to dissolve their business and laid off all of their employees. Fridge No More, a startup that charges no fee on any size of the order, is shutting down due to a deal reportedly with DoorDash came to nothing. The startup is now short of operating costs due to lacking funding. Same is the case for Buyk, a Russia-funded grocery startup in the US, which has furloughed its CEO and many employees due to increasing US sanctions and ongoing political tension between Ukraine and Russia. A former employee reported that sometimes she had to travel to a customer’s distant place to deliver a single apple or single cereal box. The fault remains in the business model and that’s why they busted.
