Giant grocers like Kroger, Walmart and Hy-vee have widely implemented self-checkout tech solutions to limit human contact during the pandemic. Grocers and tech firms are improving the check-out technology in four ways to keep it seamless: 1, Kroger has partnered with Irish tech firm Everseen to resolve the skip-scanning issue and help identify shoplifters with cameras. 2, KanduAI, a Tel-Aviv based tech firm, has developed a product recognising solution to differentiate between similar items without scanning barcodes. 3, Austria-based Anyline, is testing mobile ID-verification technology to solve the scanning of age-limited products, like alcohol etc. The verifying tech compares the facial structure of the customers with the image on their driving license. 4, Mashgin’s system uses cameras installed inside the unit to identify several items in one go for customers in a rush without requiring their barcodes.
