In order to replicate the creative economies of online communities like Roblox and Fortnite Creative, Meta has invested billions of dollars into its Horizon platform. To build custom-branded virtual experiences, marketers are already paying individual artists tens of thousands of dollars. The Horizon’s user traffic is typically lower compared to brands, as by marketing their dazzling VR brand activations through tweets, Instagram posts, and YouTube videos, brands can get millions more impressions from them. The company introduced a $10 million fund in October 2021 to aid creators in becoming familiar with the platform. The current generation of metaverse designers are primarily known for their work in Roblox and Fortnite, but Meta could simply pay them to transition to Horizon.
