A Coca-Cola facility is reducing its plastic consumption even more by using a fibre-based paper replacement for six-pack plastic rings. Liberty Coca-Cola Beverages, which supervises the bottling of Coca-Cola products ranging from the namesake cola to Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Fanta, Dasani water, Monster Energy, Powerade, and others, has embraced recyclable flatpack paperboard packaging. Graphic Packaging International devised the ‘KeelClip’ technology, which is constructed of recyclable paper. Its surface shields can tops from contamination, and customers may carry them by grabbing into the packaging’s finger holes. When the paper clips have served their purpose, drinkers may discard them in the recycling bin. According to Liberty, the redesigned rings will help lower the company’s yearly plastic use by 75,000 pounds.
