Uber has teamed up with Waymo and signed a strategic partnership to launch autonomous delivery trucks. Waymo LLC is backed by Walmart’s parent company, Alphabet Inc. Waymo Driver and Uber Freight plan to build an autonomous fleet to enhance safety and ease for delivery drivers. Waymo currently offers Level 4 autonomous trucks. The Level 4 trucks still require a human operator for both vehicle or remote operations, but it can operate autonomously in a few situations. Last year, IEEE labelled both Level 4 and Level 5 autonomy as fully autonomous vehicles.
