As the holiday season approaches, a new Instacart survey reveals that the pressure to create a special experience weighs heavily on consumers, with “the endless to-do list” being the top holiday stressor for 30% of over 2,000 surveyed US adults. Instacart’s 2023 holiday data report highlights last-minute shopping trends. In 2022, the day before Thanksgiving saw the highest number of orders, featuring a surge in items like whipped cream and pumpkin pie. Similarly, December 23 was a peak day for last-minute holiday items. For Thanksgiving, 85% of Americans plan to celebrate, with 38% likely to wait until the last minute. Desserts, dinner ingredients, and beverages top the list for last-minute Thanksgiving shoppers. Meanwhile, 87% plan to celebrate Christmas, and 37% anticipate last-minute Christmas shopping, citing a dislike for shopping as a key reason. The top last-minute Christmas items ordered on Instacart predominantly include desserts like cookie dough, hot cocoa, and cheesecake.
