Mondelēz International has made significant strides in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, committing to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 through the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). In alignment with the Paris 1.5 protocol, the company’s efforts aim to combat the environmental impact associated with cocoa farming, particularly in regions like Ivory Coast and Ghana. Emphasising zero deforestation in primary commodities by 2025, Mondelēz complies with EU Deforestation Regulation and SBTi guidance, necessitating substantial investments. The company’s multifaceted approach involves collaborative financing, innovative sustainability projects, and climate-smart technology development across supply chains, operations, and consumption. Notably, initiatives in cocoa farming, the Cocoa and Forests Initiative (CFI) in Ghana, regenerative agriculture for wheat production, renewable electricity sourcing, manufacturing efficiency upgrades, and logistics optimisation reflect Mondelēz’s holistic commitment to sustainability. Christine Montenegro McGrath, the company’s senior vice president, underscores the importance of global collaboration and innovation for achieving Net Zero goals.
