The FDA has approved a medication from Provention Bio as the first therapy to postpone the start of the most severe form of diabetes. Patients with type 1 diabetes who have entered the most severe stage of their condition need lifelong insulin treatment to regulate blood glucose levels and prevent fatal complications.

Teplizumab, a medication manufactured by Provention, has been approved for use in adults and children aged 8 and older with stage 2 type 1 diabetes. This drug is to be branded under the name ‘Tzield.’
