The digital grocery industry was booming at the beginning of this year, making up 15.2% of total grocery sales, as per the data shared by GroceryDoppio. However, the digital grocery industry is observing decelerating sales in the first half of 2022. In H1, digital sales were 13.7% of overall grocery sales in H1 2022, while in-store sales were 86.3%. In H1 2022, online sales diminished by 1.73% compared to H1 2021. Q1 online sales were 14.8% of overall grocery sales in 2022. Q2 digital sales were 12.6%, dropping further from overall grocery sales. January 2022 was the strongest month for third-party app sales in H1, generating about $3.2 billion.
