Universal Robots, a collaborative robot (cobot) maker, is working with Norwegian food manufacturer Nortura and systems integrator Rocketfarm to automate the palletizing of food products. By using the Universal Robots’ UR10 cobot and vision system, the system can recognise a free pallet on the floor and boxes from a conveyor belt, then palletise them. The robot’s programme can be easily customised to stack different-sized boxes in any pattern the customer requires. The cobot segment within the industrial robot sector is growing, with a market share well over a billion dollars, and offers SMBs a chance to add cobots and find plant floor efficiencies while keeping capital outlays to a minimum.
