Giant Eagle has partnered with Allivet.com, a leading digital pet pharmacy, to provide an online solution for pet owners. Through the PetRx platform, Giant Eagle Pharmacy customers will have access to thousands of prescription pet medications and over-the-counter products. The platform offers an AutoShip programme for automatic delivery and savings on pet health care products. This move highlights the increasing importance for grocers to provide affordable pharmacy services for customers with pets. Other retailers, such as Albertsons and Walmart, have also expanded their pet prescription programmes. According to the American Pet Products Association, consumers in the US spent $136.8 billion on products and services related to their pets last year, and this is projected to increase to $143.6 billion in 2022.
