Since the phrase “metaverse” was first used in Neal Stephenson’s science fiction book Snow Crash in 1992, the idea has been around for twenty years. The concept has only lately gained worldwide traction, as seen by the announcement of comparable projects by significant corporations like Microsoft and Facebook.
